How to Install a Fence on a Slope
Aluminum
Fence
The aluminum fencing made by Specail is manufactured so you are able to
follow a gradual slope without having to stair step your
fence. This allows you to follow the contour of your yard
while the vertical pickets of the fence stay vertical.
This ability to accommodate slope is called rackability. The
standard rackability for a residential grade specrail fence section is
about 8 inches over a 6 foot span. Fence sections can also be
specially made to accommodate a more severe slope if needed by
specially punching the horizontal rails of the fence.
Note: This degree of
rackability is only applicable for fence styles that have standard
picket spacing (just under 4 inches). Styles with only 1.5
inch picket spacing cannot rack. (note should be italicized
in different color)
Of course, you can also stair step the fencing if this is the look you
are trying to achieve.
Aluminum fence provides you with the elegant look of wrought iron, is
maintenance free and has the ability to follow the slope of your
property. This makes a very attractive option for your fencing
needs. Click below to shop for aluminum fence.
Vinyl
Fence
The vinyl fencing from Vinylgard is also manufactured in a way that
allows you to follow a gradual slope without stepping the fence.
It is generally constructed in the same manner as the
aluminum fencing. The same rules apply in regards to picket
spacing and rackability (if the picket spacing is tight you won't be
able to follow much slope). Again, stair stepping the fence
is also option if you desire this type of appearance.
Vinyl fence gives you the traditional look of picket or privacy fence
without the maintenance of wood with the ability to follow your slope
or stair step. Click below to shop for vinyl fence.
Wrought
Iron Fence
Our wrought iron fencing is not able to follow a slope due to its all
welded construction. There is a four point weld at each
location where vertical picket meets horizontal rail. This
does not allow for any rackability. The only way to install
the wrought iron fencing on a slope is to stair step the fence.
The strength and durability of wrought iron is the biggest
advantage of this type of fencing. You just have to sacrifice
the ability to follow the grade of your property with this
style. Click below to shop for wrought iron fence.
